The Iceman Cometh

Day 227 of 365

I have been so busy the last couple of days that I didn’t realize we were about to get really terrible weather. I have much to do tomorrow to prepare the animals and to prepare us fairly well for holidays without power. I hope we don’t lose power, but we likely will. The winds are supposed to gust up to 70 mph (at least this is the last I heard), and we have a long tree branch holding up some power lines on our road. So, yeah, we are preparing for some days without power.

On top of this, if it ices as terribly as it might, we may not be able to get out of our driveway for a day or two. We have a very long driveway nestled in trees. It can really ice. Ron has been saving ash from our wood stove to help. I hope he has enough. But I definitely better get a little more chicken food, and I need to get some cabbages and lettuces to give the chickens something to do if they are stuck in the coop for a couple of days. This weather is always hard on the chickens and ducks.

I know much of the country is going through similar situations. Hopefully, I am worried for nothing, but we have much to do in the morning to prepare. I hope we have power to make Christmas dinner, but I am going to be prepared with fruit and nuts and homemade bread, just in case. And I’m very curious to see how the tree branch holds up.
