  1. I spent year 1 – 3 in total homestead overload. We had a heck of a year with our parents in 2023. All 3 of them had BIG medical needs at the same time. My hub and I are their taxi drivers/care takers. So everything on our little farm fell by the wayside.

This year, as our New Year approached, I sat down and made some realistic plans for our farm for 2024.

I am adding fruit trees. They are ordered and will be here in another month.

We are only managing 1 hive of bees this year instead of 4 with hopes to grow our apiary slowly and deliberately without any losses from hurricanes.

And I am currently in the process of gutting the garden space and rebuilding for a much more efficient growing season for spring.

3 main goals…with a 4th for me to have more time to devote to writing. Crossing fingers that it will all work out this year.

    1. Oh, I love this approach to balance when it comes to homesteading. I am crossing my fingers for you on everything, and I can’t believe how similar our goals are. Ron and I just had a conversation about adding bees after being contacted yesterday with an opportunity. We do want a couple of hives so badly, but we think we are just not ready yet with so many things going on. I love your point about growing your apiary slowly and deliberately. I hope we get there!
