Day 364 of 365

I have a tear as I write tonight. Day 364! I still don’t have anything profound to say, but maybe something wonderful and brilliant will come to me tomorrow. Tomorrow is my birthday. I can’t believe there are people who have been with me, following this little journey, for a whole year. If you are one of those people, just thank you. I hope I said something good or helpful and inspiring or insights at some point sometime in this last year.
Tonight, I am sharing this picture of one of the peach trees Ron planted for me for my birthday. In my quest for an edible landscape, I bought four peach trees and six blueberry bushes from a local company, Fedco seeds. It’s the place to get Maine seeds and trees and potatoes. One thing I learned very early on in homesteading is that, when people say it’s better to plant varieties of plants and trees from your area, it’s absolutely the truth.
Poor Ron has been working hard to make a place for my blueberry bushes. It’s tough when you have so many trees, as blueberries need good sun.
The saddest part is Ron told me today he just has to now find a place now for the grapes.
“What grapes?” I asked.
“The grapes you bought,” he said.
“I bought grapes?”
I guess I’m getting grapes planted for my birthday, too. That’s a pretty good birthday, right? Peaches, blueberries, and grapes! Now, I just have to take myself to Home Depot and get my very own wheelbarrow.

Happy birthday! It’s amazing to see your progress in planting and growing your own food. Your patience and dedication as a homesteader is truly inspiring. Here’s to a fruitful year ahead with your new peach trees, blueberry bushes, and grapes!

I’m so proud of you, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 💛🌷 The peaches will be amazing. Ours took the longest on our farm to produce, but boy was it worth the wait!
