Happy Solstice, dear readers!
Tonight, our son played in the annual Winter Solstice Cello Fest here in Maine, and they performed two concerts. The Winter Solstice Cello Fest is an annual event hosted in Bangor, and it’s all cello. Tonight, there were 25 cellists playing beautiful music together in a beautiful space. After a tough week of storms and no power or internet for a few days (and we are lucky, many are still without power), the music was restorative.
I had thought of so many things I wanted to write about this evening, but it is late, and I decided to just let the music say everything I will fumble around with anyway, trying my best to convey the beauty and significance of this day and night–this longest night. I decided to share some music instead.
Tonight at the Cello Fest, my son had the opportunity to play the solo in Largo from Vivaldi’s Winter. It’s a beautiful version. I hope it speaks to you the way it speaks to me and says all the things about the magnificence of this time of year that I wish to convey. I think Vivaldi and the cello say everything.
I enjoyed listening. Thank you.
Have a lovely Christmas.
Bravo bravo! 👏🙌🤩 Be a proud Mama Crystal.
