Impressionist Eggs

by Amanda Galvez

Late winter slowly turns to spring and
The eggs
Turn brighter.
The blue outer shells–their turquoise speckledness
Match the dress of the woman in the painting
The Poultry Market at Pontoise by Camille Pissarro.
The French markets
Bustle where
Community, leisure, and exchange of goods are alive.
Eggs–
A staple,
Stand center, with the saleswoman.
Eggs again stand center in Paul Cezanne’s painting,
Still Life with Bread and Eggs,
Where they appear vital, appear pronounced, appear seamless, simple, and beautiful.
The shades of eggshells match the
Blurs and smudges of the Impressionist paintings–
Both pallets are soft and gentle.
The colors of eggs, springtime, and the paintings gorgeously melt together.
Eggs–
Whether in the field, in the coop, at the market, or on the table,
All convey a sense of sustenance and sustainability,
Serving as a connector.
Spring and eggs–
Graciously working together,
Brightening livelihoods.
