This winter, we are celebrating Farmer-ish kids with a special issue written for kids and by kids. Because future generations are our hope, we are excited to present an opportunity for young writers, ages 12-18, to share their stories or passions for farming, gardening, nature, and more. We will also feature works by adults, but the target audience for this year’s Winter Solstice issue is kids!
We are looking for personal essays like The Story of Two Fig Trees by Eames J. Thai, stories about helping on the farm, educational pieces about how to grow or make something, as well as poetry about everything from farming and gardening to nature and animals.
Adults, we would love to see stories from your childhood, educational pieces aimed toward a child audience, as well as book reviews of Farmer-ish related children’s books or young adult book titles.
Because this is a special online issue, we will not be using Submittable or charging a submission fee for the Winter Solstice online issue. Please send submissions by November 20, 2023 to farmerish.journal@gmail.com. In the subject line, please put Farmer-ish Kids, and please put your submission in the body of the email. *Please note we may not be able to respond to all submissions but will do our best. If you are selected for publication, you will be notified by December 15, 2023. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Selected pieces will receive a $25 honorarium. Writers under the age of 18 will need a parent’s permission before we can publish. Please note we can use pseudonyms if you prefer.
